what is DBT?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a powerful, skill-based approach to coping with distress and overwhelming emotions in productive ways. Sometimes the coping strategies we use only serve to make problems worse. DBT teaches tools that strengthen a person’s ability to handle distress without losing control or coping in maladaptive ways.

DBT teaches Mindfulness Acceptance with Change Skills focused on four key areas:

Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Mindfulness.
